Melanelle BC Hémêfa uses written and spoken words to create spaces and formats in which creative ideas, connections and transformation can grow and flourish. Her work is characterized by opening up new perspectives, clear and authentic communication and sustainable and empathetic solutions.

Melanelle BC Hémêfa (elle/she/sie) is a versatile creator who combines a broad interdisciplinary knowledge and experience as an author, performer, lecturer, consultant, strategist, supervisor, moderator and curator. At the heart of her work is her love for spoken and written words and her ability to create spaces which shape encounters, reflection and transformation.

From an artistic, scientific, educational, intersectional and emotional perspective, she addresses topics such as mindful communication, personal and team development, healing and literary arts, emotions as well as Afrodiasporic life and work. Her work is supported by sound theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). It follows a discrimination-critical, needs-based approach that aims to promote sustainable change through safe and inclusive structures at the societal, institutional and individual levels.

Since 2020, Melanelle has enriched numerous projects, organizations and stages with her creativity and expertise.

Melanelle thinks, speaks and loves in Ewe, French, German and English.

Melanelle habe ich als Antirassismus-Trainerin und Poetress kennen und schätzen gelernt. Für eine diskriminierungskritische Intervention zu den Sammlungswerken der Kunsthalle Karlsruhe stand sie mit ihrer vielseitigen Expertise als Autorin sofort auf meiner Wunschliste. Ihre bewegenden Worte und die kraftvolle Performance haben meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Mit ihrer Kunst macht Melanelle Leerstellen in der institutionellen Geschichtsschreibung sichtbar. Indem sie eine poetische, sich emanzipierende Stimme erhebt, die zwischen Schmerz und Selbstbestimmung oszilliert, verwandelt sie das Erkennen von Verletzungen in eine Botschaft des Empowerments – ein Geschenk für alle, die ihr zuhören dürfen.

Organized by curator and artist Jumoke Adeyanju, the 'Poetry Meets' event series has been an international, multilingual community event since 2014, presenting poetry, film, dance, music and lyrically talented artists from Berlin and around the world.

 

Melanelle also performs selected poems in this inspiring environment. Through her powerful language and emotional depth, she contributes to the expression of the themes and experiences that are the focus of “Poetry Meets”.
